 Darkness to Light provides a toll-free number for individuals living in the United States who need local information and resources about sexual abuse. Any individual, child or adult who needs resources about sexual abuse can call the Helpline.
All calls are confidential and will be answered by a trained information and referral service representative. Helpline availability varies according to state and call center.
What should I expect when I call 1-866-FOR-LIGHT (1-866-367-5444)?
- When you call the Darkness to Light Helpline, you will immediately be routed to an information and referral service representative in your state who can refer you to sexual abuse resources in your community.
- You may or may not be connected to a crisis and/or listening line. If you just need a confidential listening ear, inquire about local listening lines when you call. If you believe you are in need of immediate assistance, call your local police or Child Protective Services.
- You will NOT be routed to a Darkness to Light staff member. The person who answers will not be able to answer questions about Darkness to Light programs. If you have questions about Darkness to Light, please contact us.
- The information and referral representative answering the Darkness to Light Helpline can refer you to local resources (i.e. legal and treatment services), but can neither give advice, nor answer questions regarding your specific situation.
- Neither Darkness to Light nor the call center answering the call shall be held liable in any situation to the caller or anyone else for any result of the call or for the information provided by the information and referral services.
- You are not alone--resources and support are available to address your needs and concerns. Please call our helpline--someone will be available to help you find the resources you need. We praise you for your courage!
